Technique #4: Creating Visual Transitions

Carry the neutral foundation color, in this case Grey Wool, onto the other elements of your art piece to help the eye easily transition between elements, like the colorful chevron box top and the sides of the box.

Technique #3: Using Patterned Paper

Helping Adjacent Patterns POP!

To help two adjacent patterns stand out individually, separate them with a sold color.  Notice the butterfly B&T* paper is backed with cocoa cardstock and the polka-dotted B&T* is layered with the kraft cardstock. (*B&T refers to patterned paper that has background and texture.)

Creating a Bohemian Look

Combine several B&T paper patterns and colors to create a trendy, bohemian chic look. You can find this technique on the Simple Pleasures card.

Technique #2:  Pin Flags

On trend:  banners and flags are hot! hot! hot! Make a darling accent from your paper scraps by trimming a complementary banner and wrapping it around a pin from the Bling assortment (Z1466) to form a small pin flag.

Technique #1: The Polaroid Snapshot (found on the Sisterly Love layout)

Create a Polaroid snapshot look by first cutting out a rounded-corner rectangle the size of your focal point. Then, cut a larger rectangle around the negative space, creating the look of a Polaroid. For example, if your subject is 3″ × 2″, cut a rounded 3″ rectangle using the Cricut^® machine then discard the rectangle and keep the negative space, cutting that piece at 4″ × 2½”. Add journaling to the empty white space at the bottom and attach it to the layout at an angle using 3-D foam tape. You’ll now be able to create the Polaroid look for any kind of picture without needing a Polaroid camera!

The Cutest Little Post-It Notepad Ever!

I saw an idea similar to this on Pamela O'Connor's blog...she is so talented and creative, I was inspired to create my own version!  If you like this, here's what you need to make one of your own!

Materials and Tools:

Cardstock: Cocoa, Colonial White, and Lagoon
Stella B&T bulk paper
Cocoa Ribbon
Durables Studs Round
Just for You Stamp Set (B1398)

Stamp Pads: Cocoa, Lagoon, and Olive

Cricut Art Philosophy Collection

Adhesive

3x3 Post It Notes

Use the Cricut Art Philosophy cartridge to cut the following:

Cocoa Cardstock 3 ½”, card, square 2 (p. 33)

Lagoon Cardstock 3”, square 1 (p. 23)

Stella B&T 2 ¾”, square 1 (p. 23)

Colonial White Cardstock 2 ¾”, flower 3 (p. 57)

Directions:

1. Assuming a standard size Post It Note pad, score the Cocoa cardstock at 3 ¾” and 3 ¼”.

2. Stamp the flower frame image on the Colonial White cardstock.

3. Using second generation stamping, stamp the petal image in Lagoon ink on each petal of the flower.

4. Using the rock and roll stamping technique and second generation stamping, stamp the outside edges of each petal in Olive ink.

5. Using a ½” x 2” strip of Colonial White cardstock and Cocoa ink, stamp the “A note for you” message. Trim the edge of the strip to form a “v”.

6. Sponge all edges in Cocoa ink, if desired.

7. Wrap the Cocoa cardstock around the Post It Note pad and adhere the back of the Post It Note to the Cocoa cardstock.

8. Use Cocoa ribbon to wrap the spine of the Cocoa cardstock cover. (This will cover the original scoring from the Cricut.) Add some adhesive to the inside of the spine and the top of the Post It Note pad and press firmly.

9. Attach the flower (with a pop dot, if desired) and squares to the cover.

10. Attach the Durables Stud to the center of the flower.

11. Tuck the “A note for you” just under the stud and adhere.
